The Alaskan Malamutes where our first passion for Sled Dogs and one we will never be without.  They are truly a magnificent breed and a true reward to work and live with.  The Malamutes are a breed born with a strong sense of survival and their natural instincts very much preserved.  As a result the Malamute makes an exceptional working dog but can require some motivation to work to it's full potential.  We now run mixed Alaskan Malamute and Alaskan Husky teams which brings the best out of the Malamutes.

Breed standards are a controversial topic with different breeders having different views.  We strive to preserve the working qualities in the breed and this does not always coincide with it being a winning showdog.  If any of our dogs have a fault that would affect the dog in it's ability to work in it's natural environment then it will not be bred regardless of how impressive it may look or previous show results.

Itasca Kennels breeds for it's own development.  Any puppies sold will be primarily placed in working homes.
